I share with you this day a “special place” where Pops and I learned to work with terra cotta clay. Merritt Island Pottery Shop no longer exists today but it was there where we both learned. Merritt Island Pottery was begun in the year 1932 and years later Pops and I spent time working with the clay there. I am the only student who became a full time working potter in the mountains of North Carolina. It is from this place that a special time in history begun for me and today that I present this work to you from pictures and film footage taken many years ago at Merritt Island Pottery and my potter’s shop the Violet Patch.
